How will I know if I am ready?
Your instructor will tell you when you are ready to take your practical test. This is usually when you are able to drive fairly
faultlessly, and when you are able to perform all the topics covered on your progress sheet independently.
Can I just ‘go for it’ even if I am not quite ready?
No! Your safety and that of other road users is important to us. We appreciate learning to drive can be a costly exercise,
but there are sadly no short cuts.
There is a waiting list for tests, so can I book now and use it as a goal?
Quite possibly, but should your instructor feel you are not at the required standard - he/she reserves the right to refuse to
take you to the test. The DVSA will give you a cancellation date (a date by which you can cancel before losing your fee).
It is YOUR responsibility to monitor this date and to double check with your instructor that you are ready! Your instructor
WILL NOT attend a test if you are not ready.
I took a test before, so surely I am ready to have another try?
Not necessarily! It is common for the standard of a pupil’s driving to slip. It may be that you have issues to address
BEFORE rebooking.

IMPORTANT: Double-check prior to your cancellation date that you are ready for test. This is YOUR responsibility!
Remember, we reserve the right to refuse taking you to your test if you are not ready - so double check prior to your
cancellation date to avoid losing your fee. It is down to you to double-check! The safety or the DVSA staff; and that of
other road users comes first - for that reason tests will not be supported if you fall below the required standard.

Book a ‘pre-test prep’ lesson to cover all the things that
will happen on the day. This highly recommended
lesson will cover what you should expect on test day.
Please note that we charge for 2 HOURS if you wish to
use your Instructor’s car for your test.
Your instructor may feel prior to the test that you are not
ready. It is your responsibility to monitor the last day
you are able to cancel without losing your fee!
Make sure you arrange enough lessons to help you
prepare properly. Instructor’s diaries fill up fast, so be
sure to pre-book some lesson times in advance.
Ensure you read the important notes on this page.
Contact your instructor if you are unsure of anything.
When you look for available dates, leave the ‘Instructor
Number’ field blank.
Make sure you ask you instructor if they are available
BEFORE booking a test!
